The great migration of over two million wildebeest and other grazing ungulates every year is the Mara's foremost attraction and one of the greatest spectacles in the animal kingdom. Each year, far south in the vast Serengeti, the wildebeest raise their heads, sniff the air, and as if of one accord, start the long trek to the Kenyan border.

Virtually every common species of East African wildlife may be seen here including elephants, the legendary black-maned lions, leopard, cheetah, giraffes, wildebeests, buffalo, wart hogs, zebras, gazelles, topi, hyena, ostrich, hippos, baboons and many others.

There are more than two million animals in the Mara during the annual wildebeest migration. An extraordinary variety of birdlife is also known to the immediate area.

For many people, timing their Masai Mara Safari to coincide with the migration seems vital - but with a very abundant and healthy resident population of animals, a holiday to the Masai Mara is great at any time of the year.
