Selous is the largest Reserve in Africa and one of the largest in the world. Landscaped to perfection by nature’s hand it remains protected from human impact due to its remote and vast 50,000 km2 terrain. With its associated wetlands, lakes and swamps, it’s one of the most outstanding and unique ecological systems in the world. Due to this unique ecosystem the Selous Game Reserve is honored as a World Heritage Site. The reserve is named after Frederick Courtney Selous, British Officer, Explorer, Hunter and Conservationist who was born on 31 December 1851.
The best time to visit Selous is in the dry season between June and February. All the lodges close down their operations in the months of March and reopen in June.
Selous Wilderness Camp is located on the Eastern border of Selous Game Reserve. With Seven spacious en suite tents set distances apart from each other guests are able to enjoy the tranquil views of the Rufiji, a luxurious bubble bath and outdoor shower in a sheltered natural environment.Grunting hippos, bathing elephants and slow river cruising crocodiles puts on a daily national geographic show for guests from within the camp areas.
The 10 spacious villas are all privately set and lavishly expansive. Each villa is beautifully built, crafted and furnished in Zanzibar style. All villas consist of a spacious bedroom, semi open-air ocean view sitting room, cloak room with private safe, second floor bedroom and private terrace. From your ocean view terrace you can watch the local fishermen sailing the Indian Ocean and the breathtaking sunrise and sunset are yours.
