LAKE NAIVASHA

From the top of the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley you can see Lake Naivasha sparkling in the sun thousands of feet below. Just an hour's drive from Nairobi, Naivasha is one of the gems in a necklace of Rift Valley lakes.

Hell's Gate National Park lies beside the lake. This Park was named for its pair of massive red tinged cliffs framing a geothermically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs. The park is home to a profusion of plains game and birdlife. Walking is permitted, making it ideal for hiking, biking, and rock climbing.

Boat trips on the lake are widely available, and is a great way to spend an afternoon or morning. The water is dotted with Pelicans, and the papyrus alive with Kingfisher, Heron, Jacanas and more, while high in the trees over the Lake you will find Africa's largest concentration of African Fish Eagles.

Sunsets are always stunning, with the haunting call of a Fish Eagle high over the Lake bringing the day to a perfect end....
Colobus monkeys are often seen in the canopy of the Acacia forests around the lake, and on the north shore of the lake Buffalo, Waterbuck and Eland are often seen grazing.

Crescent Island, a partially submerged volcanic crater, is a private game sanctuary with herds of wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, gazelle and other plains game. Many local lodges can organize boat trips to the island, where you can walk among the herds of game.

North West of the Lake is the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary. This is a small private sanctuary centred around a volcanic crater lake with spectacular green water. The lake attracts many flamingo, and the surrounding forests and plains have plenty of game. This is a good place to explore on foot.

Here the avid bird watcher sees paradise in a vast array of exotic bird life. The lake region is host to distinctive herds of plains game and the elusive, black faced colobus monkey.

Location:

Chui Lodge is magnificence at its peak, set in its own 18,000 acre Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary overlooking the dramatic backdrop of the Rift Valley and the Mau escarpment.

The lodge, set in the privately owned Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary, is an exclusive and exquisite paradise nestled in a grove of Euphorbia trees, overlooking a waterhole with the dramatic Mau Escarpment as a backdrop.
This setting epitomises the Masai translation of the word Oserian as being a “place of peace”.

....experience these unique qualities, like Danny De Vito, Jim Carey and numerous others have done.

Accommodation / Facilities:

The five individual and well-spaced cottages are built in the same fashion as the main building. Each room is uniquely designed with en-suite bathrooms and a delightful veranda with its own view.
The marble basin tops, roaring log fires, artistically decorated windows and magnificent four-poster king-sized beds ensure the essential touch of luxury.
With only five rooms available, guests can expect to receive excellent service from staff and attention to detail like no other place ever visited in Africa.

A short walk from the main building is the delightful heated swimming pool with great views of the waterhole and the Escarpment.

Outstanding professionally trained chefs deliver an exquisite array of cuisine to suit all tastes; the emphasis is on diverse multi-cultural cuisine, which is made possible with an extensive kitchen and a Tapinyaki hot plate.

Game Drives: Guests at Chui Lodge can experience their own private and exclusive game drives with  experienced guides. There is an abundance of wildlife that live within the security of the 20,000 acres of the Sanctuary surroundings and along miles of unspoilt lakefront.

Bush Walks: Walking around Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary’s lake frontage allows Ornitholigist’s and Game Viewers to interact with the diverse range of species on a more personal level whilst stretching ones legs.

Champagne Bush Breakfasts: Usually on the lakefront, one can enjoy breakfast whilst watching hippo’s return from their nightly foraging.

Sundowners: Sundowners are included in the game-drive package and consist of wine, beer & “bitings” being served around a roaring fire in the depths of the sanctuary.

Boating Trips: These allow an entirely different perspective on the lakes ecosystem. Vast Papyrus swamps can be viewed or alternatively one can try their hand at fishing for the abundant Black Bass.

The Oserian Game corridor is one of the last remaining of its kind. It provides free and safe passage of game, from both Mt. Longonot and Hells Gate National Parks, to the lake and pastures beyond.
