KEEKOROK LODGE - MAASAI MARA

Location:

Keekorok Lodge, sited in the direct path of the migration, was the first lodge to be built in the Maasai Mara. At the height of the migration, Keekorok is surrounded by a swarming mass of animals and there is hardly need to go for a game drive.

Keekorok's charm is its setting, its ease of access from Nairobi and the liberal use of local Sand River stone and cedar wood in its construction. There's a lounge furnished in leather and tartan and a dining room open to the terrace allowing fresh breezes and views of the Mara. The terrace overlooks mowed lawns and a swimming pool surrounded by bougainvillea and swathes of golden flowers.

Accommodation:

There is a wide range of accommodation. Rooms are simply but tastefully furnished, many with views of the Mara.

Game Viewing/Activities

Early morning and afternoon game drives offer animal encounters unparalleled in the world all year round. Ninty-five species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles have been recorded and over 400 bird species. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant. Wildlife videos are screened regularly and there are lectures on the culture and lifestyle of the Maasai people.

A 300m raised walkway winds through the riverine forests in front of the lodge to a thatched sundowner bar overlooking the plains of the Maasai Mara and a pool with resident hippo.

If you're after an experience of a lifetime book a hot air balloon safari for an early morning bird's eye view of the Mara and its animals. After an hour of drifting with the wind you land to a champagne breakfast.

Rates are inclusive of game drives, full board accommodation, room service and transfers to and from the airstrip (when applicable). Bookings are only accepted on an all-inclusive basis. Please contact us for current rates.
