GORILLA TREKKING IN UGANDA
Situated in the
heart of Africa, Uganda is the undiscovered Pearl of the continent. It
hides an unparalleled variety of scenery, with exuberant tropical forests
that are home to mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, mountain peaks covered
in snow, elephants ambling through open savannah plains, crystal clear
lakes, challenging rapids of the notorious River Nile and a melting pot of
fascinating culture.
The dense tropical
rainforest is full of life, stirring sounds and hidden movement. Cut your
path through the thick tangle of the impenetrable forest of Bwindi and
find yourself looking into the dark, gentle eyes of a mountain gorilla. A
moment shared in the world of these amazing creatures is an experience of
a lifetime!
In Kibale
provocative shrieks of monkeys and darting forest birds fill the air while
you follow the footsteps of a ranger. Colobus monkeys jump from branch to
branch, acrobatic Mangabeys swing high in the canopy and all of a sudden
you are watched by a family of chimpanzees. Discover the mysteries of
their existance as they chatter, play, eat and quarrel.
Safari Itinerary
Day 01
On arrival Entebbe, transfer to your hotel. The rest of
the day is at leisure to relax or enjoy
optional sight-seeing activities.
Overnight at Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel on bed &
breakfast basis.
Day 02
Following breakfast, travel by road to Bwindi
Impenetrable Forest. The drive passes many
local villages and you stop for lunch en route.

You will have a short stop at the
Equator for a morning cup of coffee or tea, as well as a short
informative talk. Lunch will be in either Mbarara or Kabale. Your drive
will take you through Uganda’s rolling green hills through the highlands,
also known as the ‘Switzerland of Uganda’.
Your road will
then head even higher to where you will be able to see the triangular
peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. And finally, you
will arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain
gorilla.

Day 03
After an early breakfast, you set out on your
gorilla trek.
This day’s trek
can take from half an hour to 5 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is
required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes.
Before 8:00 am you
will report to the ranger station after breakfast for registration and for
a short talk by one of the rangers. The guides will then take you through
the bush through the undergrowth and parting thick creepers to track the
gorillas.
You will sit in
the forest among the gorillas, listen to them grumble to each other, and
marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male, the silverback. It will be
an extraordinary experience sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you
are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas.
Should you have
the energy this afternoon, you will take a guided walk on the Munyaga
River trail, which is an ideal short trail. This walk will lead you to
three delightful crystal clear waterfalls, a profusion of tree ferns,
epiphytic ferns, orchids and Bwindi’s colorful array of butterflies. Here
you may also see birds and primates from the forest edge.
Return to the camp in the late
afternoon. Overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp on full board basis.
Day 04
After breakfast, you return to Entebbe by road
with lunch en route.
Overnight at Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel on bed &
breakfast basis.
Day 05
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight. |
